Håkon Thelin + Trio Hübsch Martel Zoubek

Concert consists of two parts. First, we will be listenig to Norwegian bass player and  composer Håkon Thelin, who is touring with his project «Microtonal Tuning Pieces». After that, the trio Hübsch Martel Zoubek will present their pieces involving viola da gamba, piano and tuba.

Håkon Thelin is a bassist and a composer, who is known as one of the world’s leading purveyors of new music and has researched and presented a number of new playing techniques on bass. His second solo recording called «Light» was released in 2011, featuring his own compositions. «Light» was awarded Spellemannsprisen for best contemporary album of the year in 2012. In the spring of 2015 Thelin releases his latest solo project, called «Folk», with works inspired by folk music.
We will be listening to his «Microtonal Tuning Pieces», project exploring possible combinations of sounds, melody and rhythm, form and structure in the relationship between contemporary music and Norwegian folk music. All the pieces are based on folk songs and each work will explore their specific tuning. The concert will be played on a double bass made by Giovanni Battista Ceruti in Cremona in 1800, which is made available for Thelin by Dextra Musica.

Hübsch Martel Zoubek have been performing as a trio since 2012. After releasing their first album June 16th on the Berlin-based label Schraum, they have performed concerts across Europe.
Their music transports the listener to wondrous landscapes of secrecy and transparency. Highly virtuosic and with a rich vocabulary of extended techniques, these three musicians tell a captivating story. A quiet and pointillistic communication and a surprisingly new combination of instruments: viola da gamba, piano and tuba.
